Description and details of incident:

On Sunday July 30, 2017, officers of the Fort Lee Police Department’s Patrol Division seized over 2 pounds of marijuana and over 4 ounces of psilocybin mushrooms and arrested a 32 year old man from Milford, Delaware.

At approximately 12:52 AM, Police Officers Zack Joseph and Kester Osaigbovo initiated a traffic stop on a Maryland registered Nissan rental vehicle on Routes 1&9 South driver by Demarcus D. SHELBORNE.  The officers noted that SHELBORNE was travelling at 80 MPH, tailgating a motorcycle, not maintaining his lane properly and utilizing the GPS on his mobile phone without a hand’s free device while driving.  During the course of the traffic stop, PO Joseph and PO Osaigbovo became suspicious of SHELBORNE due to smelling the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle and SHELBORNE’s person.  Officer Zack Joseph deployed his K-9 partner Hudson and conducted a K-9 scan of the Nissan’s exterior, and Hudson alerted to the presence of narcotics in the trunk of the vehicle.  A probable cause search was conducted at which time PO Joseph located a tan bag containing marijuana, psilocybin mushrooms and clothing similar to that which SHELBORNE was wearing.  SHELBORNE was placed under arrest and subsequently transported to the police station.

SHELBORNE was charged at the Fort Lee Police Department and released pending his court appearance.

Officer Zack Joseph and his K-9 partner Hudson just graduated in May from the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Detection Course.
