Description and Details of Incident:

On Monday, June 26, 2018, at approximately 2219 hours, The Fort Lee Police Department responded to 2117 Route 4 East (The Double Tree Hilton Hotel) on the report of an assault in progress. Detective Sergeant Cory Horton #238 and Detective Terrence McCabe #209 located the suspect walking West on Route 4 East. The suspect, later identified as, John M. Disla, fled on foot after being ordered to stop by both Detective Sergeant Horton and Detective McCabe. A foot pursuit was initiated.  After scaling a fence and trying to navigate a 15-20 foot steep wooded embankment and terrain, Detective McCabe lost his footing and sustained several injuries while in pursuit of Disla which caused him to become immobile. Detective Sergeant Horton who was still in pursuit eventually apprehended Disla who resisted arrest by striking and kicking Detective Sergeant Horton multiple times during the struggle. Detective MCCabe radioed for help due to his injuies.

The Port Authority Police Department was assisting the Fort Lee Police Department when PAPD Officer Christopher Gallardo was the first Officer to locate Detective McCabe who had non life threatening injuries but did need medical care. PAPD Officer Christopher Gallardo transported Detective McCabe directly to an area hospital where he received medical attention.

Further investigation by responding Officer Hyou Joon Lee #307 and Officer Stephen Domenick #279, determined that Disla and the victim were in a room of the Double Tree Hotel. They were with their seven month old baby and another individual who witnessed the assault. Disla struck the victim multiple times after she asked him not to smoke a marijuana cigarette in front of their baby. Disla continued assaulting the victim by using a wooden hanger to strike her. The victim then dialed 9-1-1. The Fort Lee Volunteer Ambulance Corp responded to the scene and assessed the victim’s injuries. The victim refused further medical attention at that time. There were no reported injuries to the baby. At Fort Lee Police Headquarters it was determined there was an active restraining order against Disla in protection of the victim.

Disla was charged and transported to the Bergen County Jail pending Central First Appearance at CJP court to determine bail.
