Obtaining a Temporary Handicap Placard

Temporary handicapped parking permits are available from the Chief's Administrative Assistant at the Fort Lee Police Headquarters. The permits are valid for a 6 month period and may be renewed for an additional 6 month period (consecutive) with the submission of the appropriate documentation as follows:

Applications for a temporary permit are available from the Chief's Administrative Assistant, 9 AM to 3:45 PM, Monday to Friday (excluding holidays) or online www.state.nj.us/mvc/.

There are three items that are needed:

  1. An application completed by the applicant and applicant's doctor.
  2. A prescription from the applicant's doctor.
  3. A check for $4.00 made payable to "New Jersey Division of Motor Vehicles".

These items are then returned to the Chief's Administrative Assistant for processing. The permit will then be issued in a timely manner.

If you need an additional 6 month period, you must:

  1. Surrender your original handicap placard.
  2. An additional application needs to be completed by the applicant and applicants doctor. (Please check off recertification.)
  3. A prescription from the applicant's doctor.
  4. An additional check for $4.00 made payable to "New Jersey Division of Motor Vehicles".

Permanent handicapped parking placards and plates are issued by the New Jersey Division of Motor Vehicles. Applications are available from any DMV office or online at www.state.nj.us/mvc/.
